Settlement and closing

The statement of loss, the sworn proof of loss in its nine standard recitals, advance payment requests, releases and the closing report — with worked examples.

These are sworn and accounting instruments rather than correspondence, and they behave differently: a proof of loss is signed under oath and notarized, so an error is not edited, it is re-executed.

The sequence matters and is often reversed in practice. The statement of loss is completed before the sworn proof of loss is accepted, not after it.
